Frequently asked questions
What is Swedish massage?
Swedish, or holistic, massage is a full body treatment which works on soft tissues and muscles to relax and reinvigorate the body. The benefits include improved circulation, soothing of muscles and relaxation of body and mind, leading to better sleep. It is a less firm massage suitable for male and female clients.
What is Deep Tissue massage?
It is a form of massage that releases the restrictions of the deeper muscles, tendons and ligaments of the body. Using firm, slow strokes, it uses techniques to work below the superficial tissue to break up old structural patterns and release chronic muscle tension. It can be especially beneficial for athletes, people who perform repetitive work, those who suffer from stress or who have chronic joint or muscle injuries.
When should I arrive?
Please arrive 5 minutes before the scheduled start of your first treatment to allow time for a consultation. If you have already returned your consultation form and come for a session you can arrive at your reserved time for an appointment.
What is the address?
The space is in Furzedown, which depending on who you ask is Tooting/Streatham! The full address will be provided after booking.
Is there parking?
There is street parking available free of charges or restrictions right outside.
What happens if I need to cancel?
Should you need to, you can cancel for free up to 24 hours before your scheduled treatment. Any cancellation within 24 hours will be charged at the normal price or can be rearranged to a new date. Please get in touch as soon as reasonably possible should you need to cancel/reschedule.
Are there any conditions which prevent me from receiving a massage?
Your comfort and confidence in your treatment is my main concern. Prior to the treatment it is essential to complete a consultation form. This will give you the opportunity to disclose any issues so I can best tailor the session to your needs.
It may not be possible to have a treatment if you have experienced or have an acute heart condition, have undergone surgery recently, have osteoporosis, or are suffering from fever or contagious illness. If you are pregnant you can still have a massage but I would recommend specialist therapists who can practice safe techniques. Feel free to call to discuss any specific needs.
What products do you use during the treatment?
I use hypoallergenic grapeseed oil (vegan). On request, I can use aromatic massage oils or massage bars, which may incur an additional cost.
What should I expect during a treatment?
Your safety and comfort is of utmost importance. It is difficult to realise the benefits of massage if you feel nervous and cannot relax during your treatment. I am a fully qualified and insured professional massage therapist registered with the Federation of Holistic Therapists (https://www.fht.org.uk) [Registration # 218820] and understand that coming to my home instead of a spa/clinic may cause concern.
Before your first treatment we will complete a health and wellbeing consultation. I will talk you through the plan for the treatment and give you an opportunity to ask any questions and discuss any concerns or requests to tailor your treatment and maximise its benefit. Generally I ask clients to remove outer clothing down to their underwear, but we can work out ways to treat that involve wearing more clothing if desired.
You will be covered by two towels throughout the treatment, with only the relevant limb/body part exposed at any one time. You will be given privacy to get changed before and after the massage. If you are worried and want to discuss more, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Can I talk to the therapist during the treatment?
This is your time and you should do as makes you most comfortable. Many clients enjoy the space to relax and switch off. Please do communicate if the pressure being applied is too firm or not firm enough.
What should I do after a massage?
Relax! It is generally advised not to undertake any strenuous activity for a few hours at least. Where possible, alcohol should be avoided and you should consume plenty of water and avoid heavy meals.
